L'Émouleur

L’Émouleur is a Montreal-based boutique specializing in high-end Japanese knives, catering to professional chefs working in some of the city’s most renowned restaurants. When these photos were taken, the boutique – owned by a friend – was just getting started.

I was responsible for photographing and retouching the entire knife inventory, producing a series of clean, detailed images that showcased the precision and craftsmanship of each piece. To minimize unwanted reflections on the metal surfaces, I designed and built a custom shooting table that allowed for optimal light diffusion.

The goal was to achieve the simplest, most authentic visual representation possible — requiring minimal post-production while highlighting the beauty of the materials and the refined artistry behind each blade.
